When in Cambodia, one of the must try to do aside from the temple hopping is to eat at any BBQ buffet joints. It’s a good treats for those who love eating meat and enjoy the thrill of grilling. For those of you who are unfamiliar, it is basically a do-it-yourself grill joint where you grill anything that you want. You essentially cook your meat on a grill over a charcoal stove. The grill also has a moat for your soup. You make the broth on your own, so it can be as salty/spicy/sweet as you’d like.
During my stay in Cambodia, one of the places that I frequently visited for a cheap BBQ Buffet in Siem Reap is the Hansa BBQ Buffet along Wat Bo Road. During my first visits, the cost of the buffet was $3.5 but they are now charging US$4 per head. In any case, it’s definitely way cheaper compared to the BBQ joints that you can find along Pub Street costing US$8-10 (ala carte style) and offering exotic meats like crocodile, frog, snake and kangaroo.
Hansa BBQ has a pretty wide selection for bbq. They have squid, shrimps, chicken, pork, shell fish, beef, tofu, tofu skin, vegetables, mushrooms, seaweeds, noodles and other processed foods like squid balls, fish balls, crab meat, chicken balls and more.
For those who prefer not to grill the foods, they’re also offering cooked dishes like stir fried noodles, fried rice, fried and fresh spring rolls, stir fried beef, chicken and pork and many more.
On one corner is the dessert bar where you can enjoy some fresh fruits and other local dessert where as various beans and black jelly are the main ingredients. Drinks are being sold separately and prices are a bit higher compared when you buy it from outside. They’re selling 1.5L of bottled water and soda in can for $1.25.
If you have a local friend, asked them to go with you so you can enjoy it more. It’s good when someone knows what they’re doing when it comes to preparing the food.
